  • “And what trash is this girl reading? She should be reading Mein Kampf.”
  • “You’re either for the Führer or against him —and I can see that you’re against him. You always have been.”
  • “It’s pathetic—how a man can stand by and do nothing as a whole nation cleans out the garbage and makes itself great.”
  • “You coward.”
  • When Hans Jr. arrives for Christmas, he starts an argument with his father by claiming that he "never cared about this country." He then criticizes him for allowing Liesel to read what he considers "trash." As tensions mount, Hans Jr. continues his barrage by firing a series of dramatic insults. At the height of his anger, he calls his father a coward. In shock, Hans Sr. pleads with his son as he storms out the door and down the street. Rosa yells out in desperation as the remaining Hubermann family members watch him fade away.
  • I'll see you in Stalingrad.
  • “Hansi! Come back!”
