Robert De La Salle was born in Rouen, France. He was born November 22, 1643. When he was 22 he started sailing to claim land for France. His mom's name is Catherine Geest and his father's and brother's name is Jean Cavalier.
While he was in France he went to King Louis the 14 for men and a boat. He gave him 20 men to come with him and 1 boat. They sailed off the next day. They missed the Mississippi river and sailed somewhere else.
Robert and his crew landed in Huntsville, Texas. They all got off the ship and Robert went out to find food. Before he could go on his way to get food his ship mates killed him. He died March 19, 1687. On his way to find new land he discovered the Mississippi River.
