He Taught Mexican Americans
These poor kids all deserve equal opportunity!
He Worked Hard Towards Civil Rights
Mr. Johnson, it's three in the morning.
He Stated He Had a Change of Heart
Trust me, I am a new man.
Why would Lyndon B. Johnson only change his opinion for politics whenever he taught these students who were discriminated against? "They knew even in their youth the pain of prejudice." He knew that these kids faced terrible racism, so he decided that he wanted to end it.
Why would Lyndon B. Johnson work very hard towards something he didn't support? "...up at 6:00 A.M., work until early afternoon followed by a two-hour nap in his pajamas." It wouldn't make sense if he stayed up very late and had very long work days just to work for something he didn't agree with.
Why would Lyndon B. Johnson lie? He told Roy Wilkins that he supported civil rights, and he was "Free at last, free at last." People might've been suspicious about the sudden change, but would he lie and possibly ruin his chances as president just to convince people that he supported something?
