  • American merchants tried to trade with Britain, but the British kidnapped the sailors and made them join the country's navy.
  • Why are the british kidnapping americans?
  • The British allied themselves with Native Americans and told them to kill the people living in that area. America had enough and declared war!
  • Native American Resistance
  • I'm going to shoot americans with this gun the brits gave me.
  • Help!
  • America wanted to invade Canada, so they sent ships through the great lakes. They won many battles under Oliver H. Perry. They tried to capture Canada, but failed.
  • Battles at the Great Lakes
  • We can't give up!
  • Fort McHenry and Washington D.C. Burning
  • After Britain defeated France, the put their full attention on America. After setting up a blockade on the American coast, the British sent in troops and burned down Washington D.C., including the White House. Francis Scott Key was stuck on a British ship during the firing on Fort McHenry, and after a long battle, when he saw the American flag was still up, he was inspired and wrote the Star Spangled Banner.
  • The flag was still there!
  • On December 24, 1814, the Americans and British singed the Treaty of Ghent, which pretty much only stopped the fighting. Not knowing the war ended, the British attacked New Orleans, but lost to Andrew Jackson, who became an American war hero.

  • After the war, many things happened. Manufacturing boomed, because we couldn't trade with Britain. Other countries gave USA respect, and patriotism strengthened.
