  • When the British continued to impress American trade ships James Madison thought that war was necessary. He went to congress to ask for a declaration of war June 1, 1812.
  • Fort McHenry and Francis Scott Key
  • Oh say can you see.
  • British naval ships were taking American sailors trading with England and forced them into the British army, also known as impressment. The French also formed an alliance with the Native Americans to form a resistance and fight U.S. settlers
  • The Battle of New Orleans
  • We will stop you, you wont get past our wall!
  • This war ends here, we will crush you!
  • Oliver Hazard Perry commanded the American navy stationed in lake Erie fought and captured six British ships which allowed Americans to win the battle of the Thames.Harrison killed the Native American resistance leader Tecumzuh.
  • Effects of the War
  • There's so much more work now that we have factories, man America is awesome, I bet the other countries will recognize us now, and there are no more Native Americans stopping us from going west.
  • Fort McHenry is bombarded by British Naval ships during the Battle of Baltimore, and is not destroyed throughout the whole attack. This leads to Francis Scott Key, a prisoner on a British ship, Making the poem "The Star Spangled Banner".
  • Andrew Jackson gathered militia and pirates to build a 8 foot high wall that he had his men take cover behind and use to slow down British infantry advancing to their location. The battle is a win for the U.S. and makes Andrew Jackson a war hero.
  • Due to lack of trade with Britain America had to manufacture its own goods. When the Native american resistance was wiped out people began to travel west. America gains respect from the rest of the world. Nationalism sweeps across the nation, and a group of federalists who opposed the war meet secretly at the Hartford Convention cause the federalist party to fall.
