  • James Madison- 4th president, from 1608 to 1616, asked congress to declare war
  • Francis Scott Key and battle of Fort McHenry
  • The British Army allied themselves with the Natives in the Northeast Territory, Tecumseh is the chief native.
  • Andrew Jackson and the battle of New Orleans
  • With England fighting with France and the USA, the US took the opportunity to use their naval resources and take control of The Great Lakes and part of Canada
  • Effects of the war
  • When the English were finished with their war with France they brought their naval forces and tried to take over Fort McHenry, they took Francis Scott Key prisoner, which ended with him writing the star spangled banner, after he saw that the US's flag was still standing which meant that they won the battle
  • People in America still had not heard of the treaty of Ghent, and neither did the advancing ships which fired on New Orleans and Andrew Jackson led our troops into battle which they won
  • A wave of hope and nationalism swept the country, telling all others that we as a nation were not to be messed with and that if we were we would fight back and win.
