James Madison became president in 1809. When he arrived in office, he noticed many problems occurring. Madison wasn't sure what to do, the problems were getting worse.
Impressment or kidnapping of American sailors by the British was common and getting worse. Meanwhile Native American Chief Tecumseh was stirring an Indian attack on Americans moving into the Northwest Territory. Madison would soon be at war.
Madison has declared war. Oliver H. Perry and his fleet are in lake Erie ready to fight the British. They win an enormous victory with nothing but small rowboats.
The British had just defeated Napoleon in Europe. Now they were to focus all of their military might on the US. They attacked Washington D.C. and burned the White House. Only a few valuable items were rescued by the first lady Dolley Madison.
January 8th, 1815: Andrew Jackson leads a battle against the British in New Orleans. Pirates, slaves, militia, and frontiersmen. Jackson wins the battle and returns as a war hero.
The war of 1812 resulted in the opening of the NW Territory, the Industrial Revolution, and the presidency of Andrew Jackson. The industrial revolution was a result of the British blockade of the Eastern Seaboard during the war. Americans could not ship in items, so they began making their own things which was cause for a drastic increase in american made manufacturing also known as the Industrial Revolution.
