May 4, 1916: Germany makes the Sussex Pledge to suspend surprise attacks on merchant ships fearing US entrance to war
March 1, 1917: Zimmerman note from Germany to Mexico was intercepted; Germany urged Mexico to join war in promise for the return of AZ, NM, and Tx
April 6, 1917: Due to reasons above, US officially declared war on Germany
