Native American chief, Tecumseh, rallied the Natives to fight against the Americans in the Northwest Territory. He allied with the British in Canada.
The British Navy were kidnapping American Sailors (impressment).
In 1812, President James Madison asked Congress to declare war on Britain because of the impressment/attacks on U.S ships. Britain said they'd stop, but it was already too late.
On ground, General William Harrison chased the British into Canada and defeated them at the Battle of Themes. The British weren't a problem anymore in the Northwest.
Most of the battle was fought by the Navy. Commodore Oliver Perry battled the British for 2 hours until Perry's ship sunk in Lake Eerie. He rowed to a different boat and defeated the British ships.
After the British defeated Napoleon in 1814, they put their all into beating America. They put a blockade along the coast and burned the President's Mansion, as well as the White House, to the ground.
The British attacked New Orleans and cut off use of the Mississippi River. James Madison sent Andrew Jackson to command the forces in 1815. Even though the war was already over, America still won and Andrew Jackson was seen as a war hero. During the war, America's trade was cut off due to Blockades put up by the British. This caused people in America to manufacture their own items, leading to the Industrial Revolution.
