Hi I'm James Madison, the President of the United States. I will be teaching you about the War of 1812!
Impressment and Native America resistance were two of the three causes of the war!
Olivia Hazzard Perry commanded the U.S. Navy. After two hours of battling between them and the British, their ship sunk, so they fled to another one and destroyed the British ships. The British then traveled to Canada, with General Wiliam Henry Harrison following them. Then, at the Battle of Thames, Harrison helped defeat them, leaving the place in our control!
After British claimed its victory against France, they pressed on to fight between us, the United States. Britain then began blockading our coasts. Along with that, they traveled to Washington D.C. and burned down my mansion and our precious white house! Around the same time, a man named, Francis Scott Key witnessed the bombardment of Ft. McHenry within Baltimore, Maryland, where again, the Americans won . He then wrote, our national Anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner".
Next, Britain attacked the state of New Orleans, hoping to gain control of American's use of Mississippi. As a result, in 1815, I sent Andrew Jackson to lead and command our army. Afterwards, there were 71 American casualties and 2,000 British casualties in all. We defeated them once more!
In 1812, the Treaty of Ghent officially ended the war and Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, and Commodore Perry were declared America's heroes . There were many effects that included the increasing of American Patriotism, weaker Native American resistance to westward settlement, the growing of U.S. manufacturing, and the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
