  • In 1808, James Madison, the co-leader of the democratic-republicans was elected as president of the United States. In 1812 James Madison would be the first president to declare war.

  • The British started to impress American seamen and seize their cargo, and is one of the results of the war of 1812.

  • Tecumseh, a Native American chief, organized an army in the northwest territory to fight the Americans, they allied themselves with the British in Canada, which is another reason for war.

  • The battle of the great lakes were won by Oliver Hazard Perry and William Henry Harrison, while the American army in the east withstood the bombardment of Ft. McHenry and stopped a Bitish invasion.
  • Great Scott! Oliver Hazard Perry bested the British naval fleet in a row boat! And the American army has withstood a bombardment at Ft. McHenry!

  • The British attacked New Orleans in order to cut off the use of the Mississippi, as a result Madison sent Andrew Jackson to intercept them. The battle ended with 71 American casualties and 2,000 British casualties Andrew Jackson was a war hero.
