  • Lets declare war with England!
  • James Madison was elected president in 1808 with the idea of war with England unlike Washington and Jefferson who both had the idea of peace. He believed that war was the only option to stop the bad relationship with Britain.
  • Madison For President
  • Lets fix this young nation!
  • There were many causes of the war of 1812, some are the native american resistance and ship interference by Britain, the British as well as the French kidnapped our shipmates when trade boats went to Europe. The Impressment was an act of this, James Madison decided to stop trade until one of the counties agreed to stop the interference with U.S. ships. After the economy started to drop the French agreed to stop the attacks on Americans and prosede with trade.

  • Causes of the War
  • Let us trade again. We will stop the harassment of your men and ships.
  • 1812 to 1814 was the time of war between America and Britain, the British was fought by their Navy. These long months of war were fought in the Great lakes and Canada. Oliver Perry toke charge of the U.S. Navy and fought with many dangers, when his boat sunk he fought and defeated Britain in a row boat! Soon after the British retreated to Canada where General Harrison defeated them in the Battle of Thames, the British weren't a threat to the northwest anymore.

  • It looks like the British are headed to Canada!
  • In 1814 Napolean was defeated by Britain, so Britain decided they were going to do the same to the U.S. So they burned the White House down. Britain came to take down Fort McHenry, but the Americans prevented that form happening. While the two fought in battle Francis Key was inspired by the patriotism and wrote the Star Spangled Banner.

  • Yeah! Lets do this!
  • We must protect this fort and this country!
  • 1815 was when the British blocked the Mississippi river from the Americans. When that happened Andrew Jackson was sent to lead the American forces by President Madison. After the battle there were 71 American casualties and 2,000 British casualties. The Americans had defeated the British!

  • After the War of 1812 many things changed. Some that changed was that the patriotism of the Americans grew, many American hero's rose, the Native American resistance lessened, and the manufacturing industry grew. This war helped the American society grow, become a better nation, which led to a revolution of resolution.
