  • James Madison was president in March 4 1809 - March 4 1817. He was the fourth president of the United States.

  • THE 3 PHASES
  • Tecumseh, Native American chief, organized Native Americans in the Northwest Territory to fight the Americans. The chief also allied with the British in Canada.
  • Effect of the war
  • American heroes: Andrew Jackson William Henry Harrison Commodore Perry
  • In 1812, James Madison asked Congress to approve a war with Britain because of impressment and attacks on U.S. ships. Britain had announced that they would stop attacking U.S. ships but it was already to late
  • Phase 1: Between 1812 - 1814, the war against Britain was fought mostly by the navy. Phase 2: After the British defeated Napoleon in 1814, Britain put its energy into defeating the U.S. Phase 3: The British attacked New Orleans to cut off American use of the Mississippi.
  • First what happened was they Increased American Patriotism. Then weakened Native American resistance to westward settlement. Last U.S. manufacturing grew. Beginning of the British blockade. The start of Industrial revolution.
