Storyboard Text

  • My name is Jenna Andrews. Instead of being a super-human,I was eight when I found life’s secret. I live in Birmingham, Alabama, and that is where my adventure takes place. However, Birmingham in those days was different. Everyone was hateful toward one another, and in my case, I was torn away from my best friend because of it.
  • It was a normal afternoon, until I heard someone crying nearby. I followed the sound, unable to clamp down the sudden surge of curiosity. I found myself in an alley, standing in front of a small figure in a torn dress. She was curled up into a ball so tight I couldn’t see her face. I’d never seen the girl before, but I decided to be friendly.
  • My Mama doesn't want me talking to people like...you.
  • Fine. IF you insist. All I wanted to do was help!
  • I knew I was in serious trouble, because Mama only said my middle name when she was very angry. I was confused, I didn't know what I had done wrong! Maybe I hadn't tried hard enough. Either way, I went to my room, accepting my punishment.
  • That is no excuse! You KNOW better! Go to your room.
  • JENNA CAROLINE ANDREWS!!!
  • But I only wanted to help her, Mama. She was sad.
  • When I got home that very same day, I told Mama about the girl.
  • The next day, I tried to pay attention in class, but whatever our teacher, Mrs. Dolly, was trying to stuff into my head wasn't sticking. I couldn't stop thinking about the girl. At one point, Mrs. Dolly asked me a question, jerking me back into the real world.
  • Correct! But please try to pay more attention next time, Jenna.
  • What is the rule when you multiply a number by zero?
  • Uhhh...The answer is always zero?
  • Yes Ma'am.
  • Because it's the right thing to do.
  • Why are you doing this?
  • Why are you doing this?
  • Are you really going to defend one of THEM?
  • Because it's the right thing to do
  • Let her go.
