Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecules, and many harmful substances into Earth's atmosphere, causing diseases, allergies, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as animals and food crops, or the natural or built environment.
When burned, these fossil fuels emit harmful gases including carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide which increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere resulting in global warming. Air pollution is much worse in highly populated cities where more factories emit pollution in close proximity to humans.
Burning coal is also a leading cause of smog, acid rain, and toxic air pollution. Most EM1 train engines run on desiel today. But they still haul a lot of coal to Power companys, who still use coal to produce electricity.
Landfills create a clear and obvious threat to human health as well as a threat to our environment from the hazardous contaminated air emissions emitted from the landfill biodegradation. There are over ten toxic gases released from landfills, of the most serious of which is methane. Methane gas is naturally produced during the process of decay of organic matter.
