As Esperanza looks in the mirror, she realizes she doesn't want to follow her sisters goals in finding a man. Esperanza doesn't want to have that as her only goal. In America, Americans can choose to marry or not.
Esperanza mother tries to encourage her to conform like her sister in their search to be married. In America, mothers encourage their children to follow their dreams and get an education so that they're independent and self sufficient. They do not need to be married because they can take care of themselves.
Esperanza stated that she didn't want to be tame like the others, Esperanza feels she wants to make her own decisions and her own choices. In America, we have the right to the Pursuit of Happiness.
In reflection, I agree with Esperanza and understand her quiet war as I struggle to make my own choices and find my own way. I believe all people should fight their own wars to become who they want to be, not who society thinks they should be.
As Esperanza finds her own way, she knows she'll have to fight for her dreams and not fall into the easy way out and settle for a lesser life. I also am determined to follow my dreams.
