Stay Gold Pony
Well we're here
Socs vs Greasers
Need a haircut greaser?
Johnny had a big impact on Ponyboy. When Johnny got jumped, it put fear into Pony knowing what the Socs could do to him. When Johnny and Pony were hiding out in the church, they had to go through cutting their "identity" off. And in the hospital when Johnny dies, his last words to Pony were... "Stay Gold Pony." This was significant because during their isolation time together, that poem was heartfelt knowing that nothing gold could stay.
The Church was a big part on the story, and made a difference on Ponyboy and Johnny. After Johnny killed Bob, and the two ran away, this place was where they had to recover, and regroup. In their time spent here, they had to bleach their hair. Cutting and changing their hair was like taking their identity away from them and Ponyboy showed it. We also heard the Nothing Gold Can Stay poem for the first time which had a big impact on the two boys.
The main point of this book was pivoted through the man vs man conflict. The Socs(rich kids) looked down and taunted the Greasers(poor hoods). When The Socs jump Pony and Johnny, A Soc is dead by the hands of a Greaser. This is the story line and this physically injured body lead to many more emotionally injured people. The Greasers and the Socs will always have problems, but that one night, would be a reminder on what happens when things go to far.
