On September 8, a family that newly immigrated from Afghanistan are expecting to have it's first child in Canada starting a new generation of Ghowsi's in Canada.
My fathers uncle who got a scholarship from UFT Scarborough, and studied for 5 years to become a mechanic. Opened up a business and sponsored my dad who soon became a partner of the business and still is.
My parents moved to Canada for many reasons, for new job opportunities that Canada offers. Afghanistan is a world torn country so my family moved away for their own safety. Canada has free health care and free education and it's a major factor in the process of rebuilding.
Moving to Canada was a very hard decision for my parents, my parents had and still do have family in Afghanistan. My parents were born and raised in Afghanistan and they would miss home if they left Afghanistan. My parents were worried about the adjustments they had to make in order to fit in successfully in Canada such as learning a new language and such.
Some of the major characteristics of Afghanistan's culture is the food, Canada's culture being much different because of the many choices of food. The clothing, people in Afghanistan would were identical clothing. The religion, most of the people in Afghanistan are muslim. The music, that's all in Afghan and there aren't as many options. The food in Afghanistan is all halal because of the muslim culture and muslim population. Festivals and such things are much bigger in Afghanistan such as EID for example and is a huge part of the country.
With all the difficulties and the big process my parents went through, we now have 6 people family and are happier than ever.
