Storyboard Text

  • I am Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and a Federalist. I am an influential interpreter and promoter of the U.S. Constitution and the 3rd president of the US. I was born 1757, Charlestown.
  • I am aaron burr, an American politician that is the third Vice President of the United States. I am serving during President Thomas Jefferson's first term. I was born February 6, 1756 in Newark.
  • In 1804, Burr ran for governor of New York and lost. They were political rivals for fifteen years. So when a friend showed Burr some of Hamilton’s nasty charges in a newspaper clipping, Burr did something. Burr challenged a duel with Hamilton to prove himself a worthy leader who deserved public support and could offer political offices and gains.
  • Background
  • The Duel
  • Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel to prove that he can be something political unlike what Hamilton said. He meet him in the forest to make sure no one was around while they were doing this. Burr not want to really kill Hamilton didn't he thought he saw hamliton about to shot so Burr quickly fired a bullet.
  • Aftermath
  • Burr’s life became more tangled after his duel with Hamilton. After hiding in South Carolina for a while, he returned to Washington to continue his job as vice president. Many of Hamilton’s Federalists in the Senate were horrified. Aaron never went to jail for killing Thomas Jefferson.
  • My opinion on the personal political motives that “pushed” the men into the duel is that they were not very good reasons to have a duel. I understand he wanted to prove himself to the people but still dont think it was a good reason to go kill Hamilton. I think that it was also wrong of Hamilton to write that stuff about him.
