I Stand Here Ironing Storyboard
By sallyknoop, Updated
My storyboard for I Stand Here Ironing themes are isolation, sickness, and self creation. The three 3x3's are written in the first row. Direct quotes from the text provide my evidence for my 3x3's.
Strength from isolation. Pain we'll endure. Family isn't enough.
"She was a miracle to me, but at eight months old I had to leave her daytimes with the woman downstairs to whom she was no miracle at all...."
"Momma, you look sick. Momma, I feel sick. Momma, the teachers aren't here today, they're sick."
Strength from sickness. Unhealthy home, education. Mental health suffered.
Miracles make themselves. She's beautiful now. She worked alone.
"Why were you concerned? She will find her way."
Train Station: Departures
"...I had to bring her to his family and leave her."
"She was delirious with the fever that comes before red measles, but she was fully conscious all the week I was gone and the week after we were home when she could not come near the new baby or me.
"Mother, I did it. I won, I won; they gave me first prize; they clapped and clapped and wouldn't let me go."
