  • Step 1
  • Step 2
  • He was a really great person.
  • Step 3
  • A person who has lived a very unselfish, holy and caring life dies.
  • Step 4
  • After around five years of the person's death the bishop of the person starts investigating their life by gathering witness's accounts and the person's writings. If he thinks the person is worthy of being a saint, he will then send his information to the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
  • Step 5
  • This is a miracle. He revived the person without the use of CPR!
  •
  • The Congregation can now choose whether to reject the application or accept it and start their own investigations.
  • Step 6
  • The Congregation can choose to declare that the person lived a heroically virtuous life. This does not mean that they are in heaven, but that the they pursued holiness while on earth.
  • In order to be recognised as someone in heaven the candidate must have performed some sort of miracle throughout their life. This miracle has to be verified as scientifically unexplainable. This is investigated and if verified they move on to the final step.
  • Finally in order to declare someone a saint they need to have performed a second miracle. If verified, then the person is canonized at Vatican City.
