  • I am Andrew Jackson
  • No candidate achieved the majority of Electoral Votes.
  • I just want to thank all the supporters who helped me achieve the most popular votes in this election.
  • The election of 1842 was taken to the House of Representatives.
  • All in Favor of Andrew Jackson raise your right hand and say ¨I.¨
  • The House of Representatives
  • In the Election of 1814, there were three candidates for President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, and John Quincy Adams.
  • Andrew Jackson was cheated out of the presidency.
  • House of Representatives
  • Everyone, John Quincy Adams here is by far the best candidate for this election.
  • With me as his right hand man, we will make the United States Great!
  • Andrew Jackson ended with the most popular votes, but no candidate had the majority of the electoral votes. In order to become president, a candidate must have more than half of the electoral votes.
  • John Quincy Adams had a shadow cast over his presidency.
  • Is there anything you would like me to do, President Adams?
  • Nothing at the moment, Secretary Clay.
  • Because no candidate got the majority of the electoral votes, the election had to be taken to the House of Representatives. It was now their job to choose the President.
  • In the election of 1828, Andrew Jackson won in an overwhelming victory.
  • I am both humbled and honored to be your next president.
  • This process did not go as smoothly as expected, because John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay decided to work together against Andrew Jackson. John Quincy Adams promised Henry Clay a position as secretary of state, and in return, Henry Clay used his public speaking abilities to win supporters for Adams. This was called a ¨Corrupt Bargain.¨
  • As a result, John Quincy Adams was elected President with Clay as his right hand man. Adams´ and Clay´s corrupt bargain was significant because it led to an ineffective presidency. This was because John Quincy Adams was seen as a deceiver, therefore no body, including Congress trusted him to make decisions. Consequently, Congress vetoed many of his proposals.
  • Because of the Corrupt Bargain in the election of 1824, people felt as if Andrew Jackson had been cheated out of the presidency, therefore, he gained a more substantial amount of supporters. In turn, in the next election in 1828, he won in a landslide. As a result of these two elections, people realized the problems in having the House choose a President, and it changed the way candidates carry out their elections.
  • We love you Andrew Jackson!!!
