Because of urbanization and overpopulation the North made their money by mass manufacturing textiles, lumber, fur, and mining goods.
Immigrants in the North much like African Americans were discriminated against, so they too were given the dirty jobs.
Much like the immigrants African Americans were greatly discriminated against, because of this they had their own communities along with their own churches.
The South mainly profited off of plantations and cash crops, but out of everything they sold cotton was the most popular. Cash crops are crops that are grown for the soul purpose of selling.
Slave work in the South was normally either house work like cleaning and cooking or it was farm work out in the field working on the plantation. A thing called the slave code kept them from being treated like a person.
Most African Americans in the South were slaves but the ones that were free did not have even the basic rights. They could not go to school and discouraged from traveling and on top of that they could not even get jobs.
