While reading Roderick a book, they start hearing the noises as they are being read in the book. This startles them very much and Roderick remarks that he has been hearing these noises for days. Then he proclaims that Madeline has been buried alive. Madeline then comes through the door and attacks Roderick right before she dies, and Roderick dies of fear.
