  • a proposal is made by the government to start the process the new law is called a bill (although any MP or lord can propose a new law)
  • usually a government minister that supports the bill will explain the bill and why it should be passed
  • bill!
  • the house of commons will examine the bill and change, delete or add parts to the bill and discuss whether or not to pass the bill onto the next stage of the process
  • MPs discuss the bill and add changes
  • the speaker
  • the bill is then passed onto the house of lords to be discussed and changed again (although a bill can start at either house but has to pass through both to become law)
  • lords discuss change and add to the bill.
  • lord speaker
  • once both the houses have approved of the bill and see it as fit to be a law it is then sent to the monarch to be signed with the royal assent
  • once both houses have agreed on the bill and it has been signed by the monarch then it is considered a law and can be presented to the public as such
  • bill just granted the royal assent to become a law!!!
