Samith and Krishna's Gorkha Earthquake Project
This storyboard does not have a description.
Don't worry i'll help you. Let me see your paper. It's spelled "Gorkha" not Goat. Anyway...wait a minute...It happened on April 25th not Apple 25th! OK fine! It happened at 11:56 Nepal Standard Time. Do you know where the epicenter was? You are about 13,751 miles off.
Oh no I got an F on my test about the Gorkha Earthquake! Fine! I got hungry ok!! Again I got hungry! Finally something I know! The epicenter was in Antarctica! Shoot. Then where is it?
To be specific it is 28.1 degrees north and 84.6 degrees east, northwest of Kathmandu. Next Question! What is the Magnitude, Moment Magnitude, Mercalli intensity? You finally got something correct. You put moment magnitude-7.9, magnitude-7.8, Mercalli intensity 12! How long did the earthquake last? Wait you surprisingly got it right!
Oh...Okay... Yes!!! Um....40 seconds?? Yes again!!!
How was the Earthquake caused? Wait just a moment. You put "the earth hates Nepal"!!! You have problems. It was caused by continental to continental compression at a convergent boundary when the Indo-Australian and Eurasian plate were making the Himalayas taller. You don't have to tell me that. By the way this is the 1st earthquake in Nepal in 80 years
Ok... now I know I'm dumb.
Ok. What about Aftershocks? The're mini tremors that happen after an actual earthquake. After this earthquake 3 aftershocks occurred. The 1st one was at 7:05:19 UTC and the second at 7:36:53 and the last one was on May 12th. Why do you look so surprised? Don't you know all this? Like what?
What are aftershocks? Yeah...I totally knew that. No, but I know other things.
That is correct. But what happened during this earthquake is tragic. 9,000 people died and 22,000 were injured. The total cost of the damage was 10 billion U.S. dollars. Anyway we are getting late to boxing class, Let's go!!
Many cities were affected because of this earthquake like, Kathmandu, Sindhupal, Bhaktapur, Rasuwa and Dolakha. P.S. surface waves shake the ground. That is so sad! I'm already ahead of you.
