Falling in the dark mysterius sea
"There was no sound in the night as Rainsford sat there but the muffled throb of the engine that drove the yacht swiftly through the darkness,and the swish and ripple of the wash of the propeller." (18)
The murderous trap
"With flying fingers he wove a rough carpet of weeds and branches and with it he covered the mouth of the pit."(32)

Rainsford being on the ocean in the first place finally leads to him finding and ending up on the island.
Him being in the jungle provided for him resources that would keep him alive.
The general explains to Rainsford that he hunted human beings,which made him decide that he wanted to see if he could find Rainsford if he hunted him.In the end Rainsford ended up hunting the general.It all started in his monsterous of a house when the general told him what he hunted.
