In 1215, Magna Carta means "Great Charter". The idea of this still influence the systems of government in many countries of the world.
William the Conqueror took firm control over his lands and made the Domesday Book.
This book helped William and later English monarchs build an efficient system of tax collecting.
Henry II had expanded the system of royal justice, laid the basis for common law and began jury system.
John asserted that nobles had certain rights and the monarch must obey the law.
Edward I summoned Parliament to approve money for wars in France.
