In 721, Duke Eudes had banished the Muslims in Spain to French territories. However. they returned again in 725. Unable to take them out, he arranged a marrige between his daughter and an Islamic ruler to create ties.
After the alliance between the Franks and the Muslims ended, the governor of Spain went to the northern border, most likely to take over all Frankish areas. He roamed all areas, soon conquering many lands.

In the meantime, Charles, the Mayor of the Palace, mustered a gigantic army and positioned themselves where the Muslims would soon gather. Once they did, both armies stood their not making a move, waiting, for six days.
On the seventh day, the battle begun. The Muslims attacked, but lost at the end. Their leader, Abd er Rahman was surrounded and killed. The Muslims went back to their camp, but soon retreated back to their land accepting defeat.
After the Arab army retreated back over the Pyrenees, Charles pushed them even more back between Arles and Avington. Then he defeated the army once and for all in a battle near River Berre.
In honor of the Frankish victory, bakers served pieces of bread in the shape of the Islamic crescent. It symbolized how big the defeat of their enemies was.
