Daddy doesn't get the money that he deserves so we don't have enough money to go to school!
... and I would like to have a toy car
This is Peter, he is just one of the many farmers in Ecuador. He grows bananas for a living and earns very little money for the amount of time he spends working on them. He has a wife and 2 children.
The children of these families will grow up to become banana growers if they are boys and home mums it they are girls seeing as they wont have an education.
Fairtrade was introduced in their community so they were ecstatic! This meant that they were guaranteed a fair price for their product regardless of the price on the world market.
This means their quality of life should improve, as well as the long-term prospects for their children. Their son got a new toy and they both had an education!
When you are shopping for your weekly shop please think about what fairtrade means to you. It would change someone's life!
