thank you ma'm

In "thank you ma'm" Langston Hughes creates the theme of trust and kindness throughout the text. These themes can be supported by the use of symbolism in the text, for example the purse symbolizes the boys guilt. In the text it states"the woman did not watch the boy to see if he was going to run now,nor did she watch her purse which she left behind her on the day-bed.But the boy took care to sit on the far side of the room where he thought she could easily see him....."Another example of the theme trust and kindness is the use of hyperbole when Mrs. Luella say's "...because shoes come by devilish like that will burn your feet." She doesn't mean your feet will literally burn.It is also very ironic that Mrs. Luella would actually bring the boy to her home;even thought he just tried to rob her.Its also ironic that she fed him, bathed him,and trusted him. Therefore, through the use of literary elements the theme of trust and kindness is developed.
Now ain't you ashamed of yourself?
