  • 1. December 1955, in Montgomery Alabama: Rosa Parks boarded a bus and sat just behind the "Whites Only" section of seating...
  • Rosa was asked by the driver to give up her seat to a white man, but she refused.
  • Whites Only
  • She was arrested, lost the process and had to pay a fine because of her protest.
  • Her arrest spread anger, and as a result, the black community staged a boycott of the buses.
  • NO SEGREGATION ON OUR BUSES!
  • The black community didn´t use the buses for 281 days.
  • The boycott was headed by a new minister in town, Martin Luther King Jr. and was a key part in his rise to national fame.
  • I have a dream...
  • We want equal rights!
  • The black community did not use the buses for 381 days.
  • At first, the bus company refused to cooperate with the black community.
  • But, after months of protest, the federal district court ruled that segregation on buses was unconstitutional  verfassungswidrig.
