Storyboard Text

  • One of the conflicts of book 21 is Penelope's need to select a new husband. She is upset because she misses Odysseus, but she must continue with selecting a new husband anyway.
  • (Sobbing hysterically)
  • Antinous is growing increasingly upset because he can't bend Odysseus's bow. Which is the only way he can get Penelope to marry him. This is another conflict in the book.
  • "Ho! Where do you think you are taking that, you smutty slave?"
  • Eumaeus had to bring the bow to Odysseus, even when the people who were above him in class told him not to.
  • Odysseus has to bend the bow and shoot the arrow through the iron axe-helve sockets. He had to do this while the other men were making fun of him. Odysseus angered the other men when he was able to shoot the arrow, so this is another conflict.
  • Dithering- Be indecisive This shows that Eumaeus was indecisive about what he had to do. He wanted to obey Odysseus, but he still had trouble going against his superiors.
  • Gall- Bold impudent behavior. This is important because it shows that even after all his years at sea, Odysseus maintained his personality and is still bold.
  • Vocabulary
  • Omen- An event regarded as a portent of good or evil. Odysseus received a very important omen from Zeus. This came in the form of a singular loud crack, which caused Odysseus to know that Zeus was on his side.
  • Frenzy- A state or period of wild behavior. Telemachus was getting upset and working himself into a frenzy, this caused the other men to laugh at him. Which makes the word "frenzy" important.
