  • You must take your chance. Either not choose at all, or swear that if you choose wrong that you will never marry another woman. Your hazard shall be made after dinner. Choose wisely.

  • In Venice...
  • Father, do you not know I am? Father, give me your blessing: I am Launcelot, your boy that was, your son that is, your child that shall be.
  • Act 2, Scene 5
  • In Venice...
  • So sad that I have to be ashamed of being the daughter of my father. But, soon it will all be over. I will become a Christian and the loving wife of Lorenzo!
  • Act 2, Scene 6
  • In Venice...
  • Launcelot comes with good news of love and marriage. Lorenzo affirms that he will not fail Jessica and, indeed, will marry her.
  • Mistress, look out the window. There will be a Christian boy waiting for you that is surely worth a Jewess' eye. But I must leave before your father sees me speaking to you. We wouldn't want him to find out, now would we?
  • As soon as Lorenzo arrives to the masques, he finds Jessica, who's dressed like a boy. She throws her treasures downs and goes off with him to get married.
