When he got there he soon got a job, got married and got introduced to politics. He got married Evelyn Mase.
During this time, there was segregation (SEG-Ruh-Gay-Shun) which meant people who were black couldn't do the same things as people who were white.
After getting married a second time, Nelson organized protests because he thought that segregation was unfair. He got arrested for that reason.
Little did Mandela know, he was to stay in jail for 27 years! Winnie, his new wife also got arrested but only for 17 months.
In 1990, Mandela was freed! Segregation had finally died down and Mandela soon became the first democratically elected president of South America.
In 2013, Nelson Mandela died.
