Exposition: Josephine and Richards are beginning to tell Louise about her husband, Brently's, death.
Rising Action: Louise realizes what has happened, and she is ironically overjoyed.
Climax: She goes up to her room and thinks about how she can finally live for herself.
Falling Action: Josephine comes to retrieve her sister thinking she is making herself sick by mourning her husband's death.
Resolution: They go back to the living room to meet Richards and at that point Brently enters the house. Louise then dies, "of the joy that kills."
