  • Who goes there?
  • It is I, Macbeth!
  • “dagger of the mind, a false creation / Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain” (2.1.38–39).
  • I-I have done 't. I have killed him. He lies in his blood.
  • MACBETH! You still hold the daggers of the bloody deed. Must you wear a heart so white? I will go and hide it.
  • Banquo and his son, Fleance, walk down a hallway and meet Macbeth. Banquo and Macbeth speak about the Three Weird Sisters who have shown "some truth".  Macbeth plays it off but Banquo heavily cares about the prophecies ever since Macbeth was named Thane of Cawdor.
  • Porter: Ay, I am the porter to the gates of Hell. Who knocks at my door this time? A thief? A murderer? Hehe, alcohol is quite potent..
  • What a good day to be King. I think Malcolm and Donalbain are to blame for he previous King's death.
  • Macbeth hallucinates a dagger and begins questioning whether or not the dagger is real and the morality of killing a trusted friend. The only reason he wants to kill Duncan is for the crown and this reflects his avarice for the throne. He finally reasons that killing his good friend is necessary for the witches' prophecy to come true.
  • Macbeth has finally killed Duncan in his sleep and his conscious feels the guilt after the fact. he holds the daggers that were used to kill Duncan which he was supposed to leave with the chamberlains.  Lady Macbeth is agitated and finishes the job.

  • The porter at the gate is inebriated and pretends to be the porter to the gate of Hell. He is met with Lennox and Macduff who wish to see the King. Macbeth is "awoken" by the noise and leads Maduff to King Duncan' s dead body. The castle is surprised and shocked.
  • Malcolm and Donalbain flee to Ireland and England and this makes them suspicious. Macbeth is now named King with Lady Macbeth at his side. Certain mysterious events happen like Duncan's horses eating each other and owls killing falcon which is highly unusual.
