  • Romeo and Juliet
  • Act 3 scene 1: Fight Scene
  • "Ay, ay, a scratch, a scratch."
  • Act 3 scene 2: Nurse's message
  • "Tybalt is gone and Romeo is banished."
  • Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare about two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. It takes place in the 1300s at Verona, Italy.
  • Act 3 scene 3: Hiding Romeo from his banishment
  • "Ha, banishment! Be merciful say 'death'. For exile hath more terror in his look, Much more than death."
  • Tybalt wants to get Romeo and his friends back for crashing his family's masquerade, so he confronts them with his sword, ready to kill. Romeo has recently married Juliet, Tybalt's cousin, so backs away from the sword fight. Mercutio takes Romeo's place and is slain by Tybalt. To avenge his friend, Mercutio, Romeo kills Tybalt and flees the scene.
  • Act 3 scene 4: Last night together
  • "Farewell, farewell. One kiss, and I'll descend."
  • Juliet is told that Tybalt is dead by the nurse. She is happy that Romeo isn't dead and doesn't mind that Romeo killed her cousin, she is just glad Romeo is alive.
  • Act 3 scene 5: Second marriage
  • "But now I see this one is too much and that we have a curse in having her."
  • Friar Lawrence talks to Romeo about how he has been so fortunate. Friar Lawrence keeps Romeo hidden until he is ready to leave Verona. The nurse finds them and Romeo and Juliet can see each other again.
  • "O deadly sin! O rude thankfulness!"
  • Romeo and Juliet are depressed, but while Romeo is banished the Friar and the Nurse say they'll try to get him back in Verona.
  • "Then, window, let day in and let life out."
  • After Tybalt is killed by Romeo Lord Capulet changes his mind about waiting for his daughter to marry Paris, he wants them married the following week. She tells him she won't (because it would be a sin to be disloyal to Romeo).
