Storyboard Text

  • Hey! Today I'm going to teach you how to do Two-Step Equations.
  • Although you may not know it, Two-Step Equations are used all the time in real life! Let's use one example: x-(-3)=10.
  • It's the end of the first quarter, and the red team scores a three pointer right before the buzzer. They have "X" points.
  • The red team scored the three pointer after the buzzer went off. We are checking for further review.
  • At this point, the red team has "X" Points and the referee is taking off 3. Under further review, they decide to give the points back.
  • Then we use inverse operation and equality property of subtraction.
  • To solve it, we first need to change subtraction into addition. We would use the related addition expression to do this.
  • Now, we're back to the equation.
  • It would look like this:
  • Thanks for learning with me!
  • x + 3 =
  • -3 =
  • x =
  • x - ( -3 ) = 10
  • Now we know the red team started with 7 points!
  • 7
  • 10
  • -3
