The wife symbolizes a society that is corrupting. When Tom does not accept the deal she is there tempting him and telling him that money is everything. However, him not accepting the money in spite of her, not because he thought it was wrong, shows that he is a corrupt man.
The swamp represents that in life when you try to take shortcuts that it will always come back to bite you. The deeper meaning of him going through the swamp is also that he got off his path. Lastly this shows that he is a corrupt man because he gets off the straight and narrow.
When Tom found his wife's body, he did not mourn her but took the possesions back and went on with life. Also, he continued to make a deal with the devil even though it is obvious it was the devil that killed her.
Tom Sawyer getting rich fast and the easy way is a symbol of the corruption and the slippery slope that is brought on by greed and the excessive love of money
The significance of Tom Sawyer trying to repent for his sins while not giving up his money that he made from the devil or his corrupt business represents the fact that you can not truly change until you give up your past and everything with it.
The significance of the Devil coming to get Tom's soul when Tom forgets to carry his bible on him represents that no mater how hard you try to change your action you cannot run away from your wrongdoings. Justice will always be served.
