After Crassus was killed in battle, the Senate decided that Pompey should return to Italy and rule alone. So Pompey walked back to Italy to rule on his own.
Caesar decided to hold on his 5000 loyal soldiers, so he decided to march into Italy, crossing the Rubicon.
On March 15th, 44 BC, Caesars's enemies surrounded him and stabbed him to death.
