  • The mother then ask if Mr.Chong,a retired piano teacher if she could clean his house in order for piano lessons. Jing-Mei soon learns why he is retired it's because he is deaf so he can't listen to her play music, so she doesn't play properly.
  • After one year of practice with Mr.Chong she competes at a talent show. She plays a song called "Pleading Child" but fails to perform it properly because she never played properly during practice.
  • Thirty years later, the mother gives Jing mei the piano. Although Jing-Mei saw it as a shiny trophy she still kept it in the living room. Later one Jing-Mei's mother dies and Jing-Mei plays "Pleading Child" and "Perfectly Contentied".
