Hi! I am a car and I run on petroleum! Petroleum is made out of small sea plants and animals and it was discovered by scientist who abstracted the minerals from rocks.
Petroleum is a fossil fuel and it is also called "Crude Oil". People have used petroleum since ancient times. The Egyptians and Chinese used it to light their homes at night. Before the 1850's, Americans used whale oil instead to light their homes.
In the beginning, petroleum was refined or made into kerosene for lighting. Now today,Americans use petroleum more than any other energy source, mainly for transportation. Petroleum provides 35% of the energy we use.
No one can use Petroleum as it comes straight out of the ground. We must change it into fuels that we can use
The most common use for petroleum is used for the gasoline for cars, but it is also used in many other ways. It is also used in paint, make up, medicine, candles, and Vaseline, which also has the name " Petroleum Jelly"
