The Old Man and all of the animals of the world were floating in the middle of never-ending water. He sent multiple animals down to gather mud from the bottom until one came up with some mud.
When the mud dried The Old Man made land with it where he and the animals could dwell.
The Old Man decided to make people(a woman and a child). He built their figures out of clay and laid a robe over them for four days until they came to life.
The woman and The Old Man were using chance to determine whether people would live or perish. The Old man threw a buffalo chip which told them they should live. The woman wanted to throw a stone instead which indicated death, so people would always have an end to them.
The Old Man made a bow and arrows to teach them how to defend themselves and gather food from the Buffalo.
The Old Man taught them how to build shelter and stay warm and safe, and to give them something to defend.
