BATTLES OF LEXINGTON AND CONCORD Tension grew between residents of Great Britain’s 13 colonies and the colonial government. Conflicts between British and colonial militiamen in Lexington & Concord started the armed conflict, resulting in the rebels starting war for their independence.
BOSTON MASSACRE The fatal incident resulted in the death of five colonists. British troops in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were there to stop demonstrations against the Townshend Acts and keep order, but instead they provoked outrage.
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE The British didn't accept this declaration, but were unable to defeat the colonies before growing U.S. government secured massive assistance from France, and later received help from Spain, the Netherlands, and Prussia.
