  • Sha'rika Arnold 11-14-16 6th hour
  • “As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If any one has a critical turn, it is he. He will tell me——” The vaults are insufferably damp. They are encrusted with nitre.”
  • Montresor and Fortenato met at the carnival and he pursuades him to go to the caticobs to get famous wine
  • “Luchesi cannot tell Amontillado from Sherry.” “Let us go, nevertheless. The cold is merely nothing. Amontillado! You have been imposed upon.
  • "A draught of this Medoc will defend us from the damps.” ...“Drink,”
  • “How long have you had that cough?” ... We will go back; you will be ill, and I cannot be responsible. Besides, there is Luchesi——”
  • Montresor ask fortunato about his cough to intemidate him and gets him more drunk so he can be more easy to kill.
  • “Enough,” he said; “the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough.”
  • “I drink,” he said, “to the buried that repose around us.”
  • “Pass your hand,” I said, “over the wall; you cannot help feeling the nitre. No? Then I must positively leave you.
  • Montresor chains fortunato up and starts building the wall around him.
  • “The Amontillado!”
  • “The Amontillado!” I said. ... “Yes,” I said, “let us be gone.” ... “Yes,” I said, “for the love of God!”
  • Montresor stabs him, throws the torch in, and finishes the wall.
  • “Ha! ha! ha!—he! he!—a very good joke indeed—an excellent jest. We will have many a rich laugh about it at the palazzo—he! he! he!—over our wine—he! he! he!”
  • For the half of a century no mortal has disturbed them. "In pace requiescat!"
