This storyboard does not have a description.
Step 1: The Ordinary World
Step 2: The Call to Adventure
Step 3: Refusal of The Call
"Taking care of white babies, that's what I do, along with all the cooking and cleaning." (p.1) This shows about all the maids' lives in Jackson, Mississippi. Therefore this suits the step "The Ordinary World" because nothing special happens/has happened to them. Aibileen works for Mis Leefolt (the one in red dress)
Step 4: Meeting with the Mentor/Helper
"I want to interview you. About what it's like to work as a maid." (p.119) This is when Skeeter asks Aibileen to help her write the stories about the help's life; how they feel, what they do, etc. This is suitable for "The Call to Adventure" step because it is an adventure to Aibileen because she has to risk her life.
Step 5: Crossing the Threshold
"I sigh, stare out at the yard. Gentle as I can, I say 'No ma'am'". (p.120) Although Skeeter has pleaded, Aibileen says no because she would have to risk her life to do that but she has a family to support. Also it is just too scary for her to even try.
Step 6: Tests and Enemies
"I reckon I'm on do it." (p.142) Miss Skeeter gets the call from Aibileen saying that she would participate and help her with the stories. Aibileen meets the mentor (Skeeter) who will help her spill her stories to the world.
"Well, to start, um, when and where were you born?" (p.168) Miss Skeeter and Aibileen starts their interview and it is a very new experience to both of them; Skeeter interviewing a Negro woman, and Aibileen having a white person in her house (even interviewing her).
"...there are good, tax-paying white people in this town who would fight you to the death on this. You want to let them get in our swimming pools? Let them put their hands on everything in our grocery stores?" (p.241) Miss Hilly figures out the general idea of what Skeeter is doing with black people. Skeeter realizes that Hilly is going to be their main obstruct/concern. Skeeter and Hilly are talking near the swimming pool where Hilly's kids are playing with Miss Leefolt's kid.
