Going to an event in the city, Jeannette sees her mother on the streets digging through trash. All of a sudden shame starts running through her and she reflected on her childhood.
One of the memories that came to her mind was the time when she was only three and she was boiling her own hotdogs. This ended very badly with her dress catching on fire and having to go to the hospital.
At times they even found themselves sleeping in the desert and watching the stars.
Welch was one of the most difficult places to live. The conditions were not ideal and the fact that Rex's abusive mom took advantage over Jeannette's brother Brian. All of this led to Rex's drinking to get out of hand.
Jeannette grew up to be a great reporter, Lori and Brian found stable jobs and lived to support themselves. Maureen on the other hand ended up in a mental institution because she stabbed her mother.
Rex died of a heart attack due to his heavy drinking and smoking addiction.
