S1: The snow was a symbol of difference. The difference for snow is that you need a colder climate for it to snow. In their society it was always warm, which excluded snow.
S2: Release was a symbol of death. Release was usually for the elders, but was also used for punishment. The way you would have been released was by injection that killed you.
S3: The memories were a symbol of strength. Jonas was a very strong boy because being the receiver was a big job. He received pain and other feelings that no one else had.
Dystopia 1 (D1): The homes were all the same. Everything was the same because it was a "perfect" community. You could not change things to how you wanted them.
D2: The ages. Every December would be your "birthday", everybody's birthday. The people that became a new child with you would be in your age group. When you aged you would receive the same "gift" as everybody else.
D3: In this community no one had any feelings other then happiness. They could not express themselves and be who they actually are because it was taken away from them and they really did not know it. They were also taught to speak always in a kind manner. They did not know anything beyond their community.
