Storyboard Text

  • No, that was a chemical equation. A chemical equation has two sides, the reactants on the left side which react and the protects on the right side which are what is produced. One thing you have to note when writing a chemical equation is that both sides are balanced
  • What do you mean balanced?
  • Balancing means there are equal numbers of each element on each side of the equation. Some of my classmates find it hard but it's actually really easy! The way you use them in Stoichiometry questions is by finding how many of that chemical is produced. For example, if there was 2 H2O produced, it's Molar Ratio compared to another chemical is 2!
  • Is there anything else like that?
  • Well, there are single replacement reactions. It is just like double replacement except instead of both chemicals switching elements, only one does so. Those are the easiest equations to answer on tests. There are Combustion reactions, which use Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen in the reactions, and make CO2 and H20. There's also Acid-Base equations, which result in an acid and a base, and always include water in the products.
  • Acid-Base equations? What's that?
  • In order to explain Acids and Bases, I have to explain what pH is. pH is the measure of Hydrogen ions, or protons, in a solution. Acids have a pH that is below 7, Bases have a pH above 7.
  • What if you have a pH of 7?
  • If you have a pH of 7, then you are neutral. Oh! There is also pOH. pOH is the measure of OH ions in a solution. You can find pOH by answering the equation 14-pOH=pH.
  • Wow! I really feel like a have learned a lot today. Now let's relax and watch the movie.
  • They spent the rest of the night laughing, eating, sharing stories and watching movies.
  • The end.
